15th Anniversary Overnighter – Pueblo, CO

Friday, August 30th

Meeting location: The QuikTrip at Maize and Kellogg – 1500 S Maize Rd.

Meeting time: 7:00 am with kickstands up at 7:30 am. Please do not be late as we will leave at 7:30 sharp! We will wait to sell the 50/50 tickets and draw the winner at dinner so we don’t take time that morning.

First gas stop will be in Greensburg which is 110 miles. This will be a very quick stop. We will need to gas up, go to the restroom and replenish drinks as quickly as possible.

Second gas stop will be in Garden City which is 98 miles. This also needs to be a quick gas stop. Anything that can be put off until lunch will be helpful (using the restroom and getting drinks.)

Lunch will be at the Flashback Cafe in Lakin which is 25 miles from Garden City. There is also a Mexican restaurant right across the street for those who prefer that.

Third gas stop will be in Lamar, CO which is 77 miles. If we’ve made good time and there haven’t been any problems, we can take a longer break in Lamar as it’s likely to be hotter by then and we will need to cool off.

Next stop – Pueblo! This is 122 miles from Lamar.

The hotel is the Clarion Inn.

Friday night: Get checked into our rooms. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel or there is a restaurant in the hotel. We will make a decision at that time. We can have a nightcap at the hotel bar following dinner.

WHEN YOU CHECK-IN, YOU WILL BE GIVEN A ONE-TIME USE “TWO FOR ONE” DRINK VOUCHER. IN ADDITION TO THAT, ALL FOOD AND BEVERAGES (INCLUDING ALCOHOL) WILL BE DISCOUNTED BY 20% FOR THE DURATION OF OUR STAY.

Saturday, August 31st:

The hotel provides a free breakfast.

We will plan a scenic ride that will last two to three hours. You are NOT required to attend. Destination to be announced, but it will not be a challenging ride.

Saturday night: Please plan to attend the 15th anniversary banquet at 6:30 pm in the Driftwood Banquet Room in the hotel. Kitty cost: $23.00 per person. This will be a plated meal which will be chicken with a mushroom cabernet sauce, a full baked potato bar to accommodate those who don’t eat chicken, salad, green beans and rolls. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased from the hotel bar.

Sunday, September 1st:

We will have a four to five hour scenic ride planned. You are NOT required to do this. Destination to be announced. If everyone decides they prefer to just hang out by the indoor pool and rest up for the return trip home, we will scrap the ride.

Dinner will be at one of the restaurants within walking distance.

After dinner, we will meet at the hotel bar for cocktails. There is a pool table in the bar, so perhaps a pool tournament?

Monday, September 2nd:

Meet at the bikes at 7:30 am for the departure home. We will take the same route home.

Dress code:

For the ride to and from Colorado, wear whatever you are comfortable in. It does NOT have to be a Kitty shirt. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to wear a long-sleeve, lightweight shirt or pull-on sleeves. After having just returned from a cross-country motorcycle trip, I can attest to the fact that you WILL stay cooler if you have your arms covered.

For the day trips on Saturday and Sunday, please wear a Kitty shirt.

For the Saturday night banquet, please wear the 15th anniversary shirt if you have one. Since this is our big event, I would like the picture to have us all in our matching anniversary shirts.

Things to bring:

Cash for the 50/50 drawing (6 tickets for $5.00.)

$23.00 cash or check, made payable to KKMC, for the banquet meal. If you prefer to pay for this in advance of the trip, that is perfectly fine.

Rain suit
Bathing suit
A “We’re Gonna Have a Blast” attitude!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Women’s Freedom Rally – Topeka, KS

Lori Gibbs, Melaina Phares and I met last week to put together a plan for the upcoming Women’s Freedom Rally. I will be emailing a couple of things to you over the next few days. One is your Rally ticket. These were emailed to you when I first purchased them, but given the length of time since this was done, it would be helpful if everyone got that email again. Please be sure to keep this where you can find it on your phone or print it out. You will need to be able to show this when you check in for the rally.

The second email will be an itinerary for the weekend. I know what you’re all thinking…oh no! Not one of Janice’s itineraries! I promise there will be a great amount of flexibility so this will not be a drill sargent agenda. There will be some special notes on this itinerary email so be sure to read it thoroughly.

Meeting time: 11:45 am with kickstands up at 12:30 pm. We will not be stopping for lunch so be sure to eat beforehand. Make sure your gas tank is full!

Meeting location: The QuikTrip in Park City, which is at highway 135 and 61st St. The address is 928 E. 61st St. North

Distance to Topeka: 134 miles one way from the meeting location.

Gas stop: We will stop in Junction City for gas. That’s 103 miles from the meeting location. Let me know If you cannot make it that far without refueling and we’ll adjust that.

What you need to bring: Your rally ticket; your rain suit; a purple shirt or bandana (Kitty or otherwise-this will be explained in the itinerary email); your Kitty 15th anniversary shirt, if you have one; a couple of other kitty shirts to wear (the dress code will be explained in the itinerary email); cash for the 50/50 drawing and for the trip.

What I will bring: All of the above, but I will not be bringing the normal bandanas, patches and pins as I won’t have room for them.

We will split up into two groups so I will need two Lead Riders. Let me know if you can take one of these positions.

Tresny and Colleen will Sweep.

OK, look for the emails over the next couple of days and get ready to make some fabulous memories!

May Meow Mixer and International Female Ride Day

.Plan to join us on International Female Ride Day with a lunch run to Yoder, where we will eat at the Carriage Crossing Restaurant. You know what they do really well at Carriage Crossing? PIE!! So if you choose to eat pie before lunch or AS your lunch, we promise not to judge you!

Meet at the QuikTrip at K96 and N. Ridge Rd. (4051 N. Ridge Rd.) at 10:15 am with kickstands up at 10:45 am.

IMPORTANT REMINDER! Don’t forget to wear your KKMC International Female Ride Day buttons that were given to you last year. For the new Kitties and those who didn’t get one last year, I will give one to you.

April Road Trip and Tutu Day

The much anticipated first ride of the season and Tutu Day is almost here! Let the fun begin!

Don’t have a tutu? No problem! Susan Clasen-Tiede or Kathryn Boyd Langrehr are both expert tutu makers and will whip one up for you. Just reach out to either one of them if you haven’t already. Don’t want to wear a tutu? No problem! This is a “only if you wanna” activity.

You might have noticed from the restaurant location that we are pointing our noses to Council Grove instead of Altoona. Those darn small town restaurants have a tendency to not be open on Sundays and such was the case for our dining location in Altoona. We’ll save that for another time.

We have another special surprise planned for this ride (as if being in tutus wasn’t special enough!) Prior to leaving for the ride, we’re going to make a quick detour to the Douglas Avenue Assembly of God Church to have our bikes and riding season blessed by Pastor Clayton Barth, who is my son. There’s no better way to begin our season than to ask God to watch over us and keep us safe, so we will make this blessing an every April event.

Here are the details:

Meeting location: the QuikTrip at 13th and West St. – 3933 W. 13th St.
Meeting time: 9:15 am with kickstands up at 9:45 am SHARP. We MUST leave on time so we don’t interfere with church services that morning. We will ride the short distance to the church, which is in the Douglas and West St. area.
Lunch: Hays House in Council Grove. You can preview the menu at the link below.
Distance: 98 miles one way. If there are Sportsters in the group, we will make one gas stop along the way and coming home.
14 Day Forecast: partly sunny with a high of 70, winds at 10-20 mph.
What you need to bring: black shirts for the 15th anniversary logo and any other shirts that you want to have kittified with the standard Kitty logo at the July printing. Cash for the 50/50 drawing (6 tickets for $5.00.)
What I will bring: special order patches or items not already delivered. Any Kitty shirts from the March printing not already delivered. A supply of bandanas, kitty patches and pins.

Kathryn Langrehr will lead and Suz Tiede will sweep.

Please RSVP by Wednesday, April 10th.

April Meow Mixer and Safety Meeting

Join us for lunch and our annual safety meeting at The Fusion Restaurant.  Our Safety Officer, Dawn Morse, will be presenting important safety information such as  hand signals, pulling over with a disabled rider,  riding on gravel, riding in the rain, checking your bike before a ride, group formation, entering a highway and more.  We will leave time for Q & A.

This is a rain or shine event.  If the weather isn’t good for riding, then cage it!

Safety is the #1 priority for KKMC.  Fun is #2.  Please make every effort to attend this event so we can be educated on how to get all our Sisters home safely from each ride.
